Soon, I’ll be cruising with my hubby. As I drift away in my daydreams with cruising on my mind, I’m drawn to nautical themes. Recently, I told a church friend, “You have been a lighthouse to me.” I meant this as gratitude for my supporter, my symbol of security who signaled me to the right path.
Sometimes the lighthouse feels like this:
Isn’t that pretty? So scenic, so serene, so soothing; God’s promise delivered in the rainbow juxtaposed with a permanent fixture guiding ships to safety.
However, lately, my lighthouse scene looks more like this:
Scary. Slippery. Soaking wet. That’s how I felt the last few months: searching for the shore and feeling a little lost. The tumultuous waves paralleling my stress as my footing feels stripped away. It’s not easy to shift in the current of the turning tide.
Yet, here you stand, sturdy and secure, offering shelter from the storm of life and navigating me to safety on the shore. That’s what AUMC friends do for me. Reach out a hand, offer a smile, remind me to keep my sights on Jesus, and help me steer in the right direction. We’re in this surf together working towards safekeeping. We’re in it together.
We all serve one another. Whom will you serve today? Whom will you guide with your light? Be a lantern. Be a shining light. Be a lighthouse.
Jesus said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalms 119:105 NIV

Amy,
Thanks for sharing this vivid description of how important the light of Christ is as we navigate this rough and tumble waves of the world. We are either heading into the storm, or in the storm, or leaving behind the storm. HE is the anchor to help us withstand any storm.
Peace,
Kenny
