OUR BELIEFS
As a Methodist...
Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. We affirm core Christian doctrines such as:
- Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – God is One, yet experienced in three forms;
- Salvation – by grace through faith in Christ as Savior;
- Reign of God – as both a present and future reality;
- Authority of Scripture – as the word of God and our primary authority for faith and practice;
- Church – is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today, and exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
We emphasize the Wesleyan understanding of salvation and an orthodox understanding and practice of Christianity.
- The availability of God’s grace for all;
- The essential unity of faith and works;
- Salvation as personal and social;
- The church as a community of Christ’s disciples who seek to share in God’s mission;
- The inseparability of knowledge (intellect) and vital piety (devotion to religious duties and practices) as components of faith;
- Seeking holiness of heart and life both as individuals and in our society;
- A cooperative ministry and mission in the world, often referred to as “connectionalism”;
- The link between Christian doctrine and Christian living.
